I always wanted to do something creative, practical and enjoyable. I found a women's painting and decorating class, so I thought I'd give it a try. After college, I joined BMW on work experience for 13 weeks and am now a painter and decorator.

Most people were surprised by my career choice, as it's seen more as a man's job and something a woman may do as a hobby. In fact, a lot of clients prefer using a woman as they tend to tidy up after themselves! Plus, older clients seem to feel more at ease with tradeswomen.

In my trade, I don't ever get bored because I'm doing something different every day. And it's really satisfying to see the results of your hard work and the smiles on your clients' faces. Plus, I have skills which I can take anywhere, and there's always the option of teaching and training.

If anyone is considering it, I'd really encourage them to go for it. You'd probably be surprised at how many women are already doing it and loving it, just like me.
